If you enjoy daily servings of yogurt or cheese for bone health you may be getting an extra benefit according to a large Swedish study. Researchers at the Karolinska Institute studied nearly 75,000 men and women for ten years. They found that those people eating the most low-fat milk, yogurt and other dairy products (four servings a day) were 12% less likely to have a stroke versus the non-dairy consumers.  In fact, as the patients consumed more dairy, the risk of the most common type of stroke actually declined.  The researchers theorized that the proteins in milk products and the vitamin D in fortified milk may act as safeguards by lowering blood pressure… a significant risk factor in strokes.

It was noted that while full-fat dairy products were not related with a reduced risk of stroke, neither did they seem to increase the probability of one………..Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter   August 2012
