Research led by the Cornell Food and Brand Lab found that cafeteria diners selected healthier food items just by seeing nutritious items like bananas offered – even if they did not put one on their tray. The study, which looked at 700 people found that about a third of them selected more nutritious lunches just by seeing healthy options. The researchers believe that “trigger” foods like bananas helped to remind diners to choose healthier items.  Maybe a bowl of fruit on the kitchen table can motivate us to grab something other than potato chips when we are looking for a snack…… AARP   October/November 2012
