I had occasion to witness the docs and nurses in a big city hospital in action; I spent many years working in the hospitals, late 70s to 90’s…quite a difference now, and not really for the better(just my opinion). We would take an hour history and do a complete physical..that seems to have turned into 30 seconds of asking 1 or 2 questions. Then, everybody retreats behind their computer staring into the screen. The nurses spend long hours “charting” into the computer, less actually with the patient. There are wonderful advantages to electronic records, but it seems as if it has taken crucial time away from doctor-patient and nurse-patient interactions, which is where the crux of medical care lies. I am very forgiving of docs and nurses, having known what it is like to practice in a hospital, but I am very disappointed by the level of care.
