New research from Cambridge, England reveals that exercise can reduce the effects of the “obesity gene” in adults. Approximately three-quarters of North Americans and Europeans carry the “fat mass and obesity associated” (FTO) gene that is connected to weight gain and potential obesity.  This study looked at data from 218,000 people with the gene.  It found that those who exercised regularly were nearly 30% less likely to be obese than those people who did not exercise.
